Visited Oregon this week and found my way to Pacific City and the Pelican Pub & Brewery. Right on the beach with a spectacular ocean view. Of course, I was really there to try some good craft beer and I was not disappointed.
First beer to drink is my favorite style, an Imperial IPA. India Pelican Ale first look is a bit lighter color than you would expect with a Imperial IPA but still within the style. After taking a few big gulps, this beer is very smooth to drink. I did find the malt and hop flavors were not as strong as I am use to in Imperial IPAs. The malty part I can live with but I would have loved a little more hop flavors. That aside this was an amazing Imperial IPA and I highly recommend it.
Next up, Silverspot IPA. This is what you would expect from a West Coast IPA. Very good IPA but I would have still loved a little more hops. For those who don't like the alcohol content of a Imperial IPA but still love IPAs, this is the beer of choice. I am sticking with the India Pelican Ale myself.
Last but not less, I tried Nestucca ESB which was one of the best ESBs I have ever tried. Not too bitter and very very drinkable.
Overall this place is great. Food was great, atmosphere was great, and most important the beer was great. If you are ever in these parts you have to visit and try some Pelican beer!!
